- UI is very important to rhythm games
- Everything needs to be in sync, so any lag such as input lag can break the game
- You can add a delay
- Have a playtest at the start of the game that determines the delay of the player inputting, from when they see the note
- This input lag could be due to hardware problems, such as with the tv
- Sight reading
- Ability to play the game without needing to retry the song over and over again
- Different colours for different notes
- Using layouts or imagery that allow for notes to be laid out in a predictable manner, eg in guitar hero the notes come in on a thread of a guitar so it is easy to see when the player needs to hit an offbeat note well in advance
- In games in other genres that have rhythm elements, it is important to remind the player that the rhythm is there
- In Hi-Fi Rush, everything from the world to the player character’s movements
- Use UI like visual assists to inform the player of the beat
- Prominent and animated
- Bold animation for when the player messes up or succeeds
- These are always on screen to remind the player that going to the beat is best way to play. However, they can usually be turned off or changed to be more or less informative, depending on the player’s ability
